Even though I was happy with my prior dentist of 30 yrs I thought I'd give Brownstein a try. But he was so bad I'll never go back. He said I had several cavities but my prior dentist said it's absolutely not true! He talks too fast & unintelligibly & has white foam on his lips. Receptionist Ellie is rude, hostile, & apathetic. I told assistant & Brownstein I don't want nitrous. All during my appt Brownstein kept being called to other room for other patient. Before my shot I asked assistant if Brownstein good at shots & she wouldn't answer. He said Close your eyes in rude hostile way & crammed shot in hard & fast! They're supposed to shake cheek & put shot in slowly. Then he puts nitrous mask on me & assistant doesn't even remind him I said no nitrous. He yells at assistant during appt, very rude. The bathroom is super tiny, right in receptionist desk area, door does not work or lock. I mentioned to receptionist how they could fix it easily (I know construction) & she ignored me even though she was not busy & definitely heard me. I spent a fortune here & they were still so rude & unprofessional to me.

I was prepared to like Dr. Brownstein at once when I met him, and I did. I'd been primed to trust him by the recommendations I'd gotten from a variety of friends and from his website. What I like most about his approach is that he pays attention to the toxicity of the dental materials he uses. He is highly educated and very intelligent and careful. He didn't in fact do any work on my teeth-- just a thorough diagnosis-- because he referred me to an endodontist to confirm his assessment before doing any work. I am currently saving to be able to afford the needed treatments from both-- dentistry is way too expensive for the average pocketbook, especially during this recession, and Dr. Brownstein did not offer any kind of payment plan. Insurance covers only a fraction of the cost and has a cap on the amount per year that still leaves you with humongous bills.

About Hygienist: Very nice and experienced.

Dr. Brownstein's chair-side manner and constant awareness of patient comfort, as well as his thorough explanations of both perventative and reparative care have made me a long-time client. He does no unnecessary procedures, and has a calm, realistic, and cutting-edge professional approach which soothes the most anxious of patients (being one, myself). Questions are answered in a timely manner, and he sagely recommends waiting for improvement before considering the more invasive procedures in complex cases. His cutting-edge professionalism is revealed when he removes a silver filling by means of a special mechanism which prevents mercury exposure. While many dentists would rather discuss the potential hazard of mercury exposure, he resolved it immediately instead by purchasing whatever is needed out of concern for his patients. He's also happy to share news of the newest innovations in dentistry if he believes it is at all relevant to your case. The facilities are recently renovated, and though space is at a premium, Dr. Brownstein has made the very best of it. Everything is clean and comfortable, right down to the self-service tea area and a great assortment of magazines that won't ever insult your intelligence.

About Hygienist: Sue is an absolute treasure with a very sensitive touch. She never misses the crucial questions before a cleaning, is thorough and very careful to note anything worth a second glance by reading even the slightest of gestures which the patient may not even be aware of displaying.

Dr. Brownstein is the best dentist we've ever visited. When you go to his office, you can expect comfort, professional care, and the resolution of your problem in one visit. We were also pleased with how easily his staff accepted our dental insurance. He is very honest and will only recommend treatment that is necessary. Furthermore, he guarantees his work; once I broke a thin porcelain crown that he installed, and he replaced it with a stronger crown at no charge. We've been recommending Dr. Brownstein to all our friends and we will never let any other dentist touch our teeth!

I have been seeing Larry for 12 years, and think he's great. He recently had to send some dental work back to the lab two times in a row. It was inconvenient for us both having all these extra appointments, but Larry made sure to see me first thing each time, and he made sure he was totally satisfied with the dental work that will be in my mouth the rest of my life. That's the kind of dentist I want. He also explains everything he's doing and treats you like an intelligent adult. Best Rating.

Dr. Brownstein is the best dentist I've ever had. He is extremeley knowledgeable, sensitive, and patient. He and his staff are all top notch professionals and wonderfull people. I have been a loyal patient of his and his father's since 1977. I am happy to drive out of my way from San Francisco to Sausalito to receive his exemplary dental care.
