Excellent - highly recommended. (I swear I have no connection to him except as patient - I get nothing from this review.)
I've had several dentists, and was referred to Dr. Hammer about 10 years ago. He is excellent. Highly skilled, specializes in crowns and the like, but does your regular exam and fillings too. He doesn't do a crown when not needed (my last dentist - pretty well recommended one in Brookline - did!). He isn't cheap, but catches trouble when it's cheaper to fix, when possible.
He has taught prosthodontics (crowns and stuff) at Tufts for many years, speaks at seminars, etc. Very high end guy. Isn't inexpensive, but I feel it's cheaper in the long run - and less painful, in my mouth - to get my dental work done right the first time. He doesn't take insurance, so you pay in full up front. They do, however, submit the bill to your insurer(s). You then get the check directly from teh insurer. I've never had a problem with this.
Going into Boston from the suburbs is kinda a pain (I used to work in the city), but I will never leave him.
