Downtown Dental LA is a real clinic where we meet real professionals, who CARE about people. I had a bitter experience with my former she-dentist and a lot of mess to clean up after her, correcting her mistakes. No doctor took on himself this task ; the responsibility of others’ malpractices.
I met Dr Mungcal and Chris, his assistant, and I would say what Dr Mungcal had done was a heroism; he took on himself without any fear of consequences to correct other doctor’s mistakes , as a real professional, confident on his skills and knowledge – and I would say he saved my life. Not only- he saved also my faith in doctors and clinics, which I have lost, and I was in psychological torture, not only in physical.
I had a sever bacterial infection and root canal abscess which Dr Mungcal treated , also: bite correction, three most difficult dental implant, which no other doctor risked to undertake, because of absence of bone mass . All was done in perfect accuracy, high standards of care – which I have never seen in other clinics.

Nowadays you will meet rarely a dentist who is qualified as a doctor. For such the money is a goal not a mean.
Dr. Don Mungcal is a rare exception.
I was suffering from a medical malpractice performed by one unprofessional dentist , because of a dental bridge which was wrong – badly positioned and it was not adjusted to my jaw. I vomited, my jaw bones were hurting.
Dr. Mungcal identified the problems ; he removed my bridge in most skillful way an he posted two crowns with two implants.
His skills to adjust the teeth are exceptional, which I have never seen before.
After this meeting with Dr. Mungcal the next day I could not recognize myself in a mirror: my jaw was changed, and I saw my chin as it was when I was 20 years old.
WOW!
His dentistry is about science and art.
I highly recommend do not lose the opportunity and use the service of Downtown Dental. It is a blessing for our community .

the Dental hygenist make a recommendation to have my oral bacteria to be tested - $800 test. Also made an evaluation of one particular tooth that she felt was quite severe. I questioned her judgement and chose to seek a second opinion. Very good that I did. The one particular tooth was not nearly as bad as evaluated, and this dentist said that the bacteria assessment was "a big scam".
No, I will not be back to see Dr. Mungcal.

About Hygienist: 2 stars. She is good at what she does, but became defensive when I questioned her judgement. Very glad I did question it!

Do not go here. They will charge you 10 times more than any other dental office.
They use their fancy sophisticated diagnosis and charge you for things you don't need.
I paid $2400 for ONE deep cleaning and force me to sign up for their membership and products that I don't need. They don't even want to follow up with the subsequent cleaning that my membership entitled me to (even though I paid for it) And ask me to pay another $1700 for the follow up treatment. Check your sources and see other dentist first and then visit them. You can surely compare what your dentist says to Downtown Dental and confirm their fraudulent practice.

About Hygienist: The hygienist did one deep cleaning and 1 regular cleaning. And refused to do the 2nd regular cleaning because she said my periodontal issue was getting worse, and I should go see a peridontist. But if I pay additional $1700, she would treat me.

After going to several dentists and not satisfied with the work i received i almost gave up on going to any dentist, but thanks to a friend who referred me to Dr. Mungcal, i am truly satisfied with the work that has been done. Now I refer all my friends, family members and co-workers.

Both my wife and I use Dr. Mungcal's services, although she's been a patient for close to a year now. She always spoke very highly of him, so I recently started visiting his office as well, although I hadn't been to a dentist in more than 9 years. I was very nervous about it, but he made me feel comfortable and filled a few cavities with practically no pain. He's a pleasant guy and explains what he's doing as he goes along. He dispenses advice and answers all questions patiently. I'd definitely recommend him to friends in the area. There's a reason why he's consistently voted the best of Downtown in the Downtown News. The front desk people are always nice and call to remind me about appointments. Cost is average to high, but I think it's worth it. Very nice and modern office.
About Hygienist: Dr. Mungcal's assistants and hygienists are also very friendly and helpful. They're very gentle and seem to know what a patient's worst fears are. I have nothing but good things to say about them. The patient rooms are very clean and the equipment is top-notch.

I was very optimistic when visiting this dentist at the recommendation of a colleague. My first disappointment was when he suggested a procedure to correct a miniscule imperfection in a front tooth. When I declined, he pressed the issue. When I came back at a later date for another procedure, he raised the issue again and asked why I didn't want it done. I suggested that I would get it done later but that it isn't a priority since I had other issues to be addressed first, including a problem with my bite. Instead of waiting until my bite was corrected, despite my wishes, he immedidately bonded the tiny chip on my front tooth. Within a week, the bonding he put on the tooth chipped away (because the underlying bite issue hadn't been addressed yet). Moreover, he replaced crowns that were said to be cracked but I was never given a choice as to what my options were. During the procedures, he seems detached from the patient he is working on . When this dentist is done with a procedure, he simply moves on to the next patient--without a word. The practice feels more like an assembly line than one where consideration is given to the paying patient.
